Me? Vaughn Rickman has an honest to God crush on me? I don’t even know how to process this; sitting so close to him that I can smell his crisp, clean aftershave in the sitting room of his fucking mansion. A mansion! Pinch me, this cannot be real.

“Wow.” Is all I can think to say. His sparkling eyes meet mine and I can barely move a muscle. After a beat, it hits me that I haven’t responded appropriately. “Of course, I had a crush on you. Which was very confusing because…well, you’re such a jerk.” His face falls. “Or so I thought.”

“And now?” He leans in closer, closing the gap between us.

“Now?” I lick my lips, prepared to feel his full mouth against mine. Vaughn, the gigantic, muscular billionaire in the oversized tux—Cinderella, eat your heart out. “Right now I just want you to kiss me.” Vaughn huffs out a little laugh, and just as his lips are about to meet mine,

“Ahem, Mr. Rickman.” We pull apart, our heads darting to where the voice came from. It’s his driver, hands clasped in front of his waist. “If we don’t leave now, you’re going to be late.”

“We’ll be right there, Joffrey,” Vaughn calls. The man nods once and exits the room. “To be continued.”

Vaughn rises from the sofa, takes my hand and helps me up. My entire world flashes before me. Here I am struggling to pay my bills and this guy has a driver. A fucking driver! I nod and squeeze Vaughn’s hand, then he leads me to the front door and we make our way to the car.

In the backseat, Vaughn’s knee won’t stop bobbing. Every time my eye flits toward it, he stops, then shoots me a tight smile. “Everything okay?” I ask.

“I’m just nervous about the speech.”

“You’re giving a speech?” I clasp my hands together. “Oh how cool.”

“Not cool. I hate speaking in front of people.”

“Aw, come on. You’ve got to be used to it by now.”

“No.” He brushes his dark blonde hair away from his face, accentuating his cheekbones, sharp as razors. “I usually dodge any event where I have to speak, but Aimee insisted I follow through on this one.”

“Aimee?” I can’t hide the disappointment in my voice. Clearly, Vaughn picks up on it. He places his hand on my knee, and a wave of tingles erupts in my core.

“She’s my Public Relations Manager, and the little sister I never had.” Vaughn pulls the notecards from his inner breast pocket. “She helped me write this speech, but she can’t help me deliver it.”

“Not to brag,” I toss my hair over my shoulder, and clasp my palms together. “But I was the president of the speech and debate club in high school. Public speaking is so my jam.”

“Want to deliver this speech?” My handsome billionaire date looks so vulnerable right now. I want to climb into his lap and fuck away his nerves, but something tells me he needs a little more than that.

“That’s obviously not an option.
